Pointing: We want to produce dogs that naturally point and don't need training to get them steady.

Retrieving: A puppy that has natural tendency to pick up objects and deliver them to you make the most reliable retrievers.

Cooperation: A puppy that works to please his owner is much easier and fun to train.

Tracking: The ability to stay on track and find the downed game is what it is all about. After the find, it must dispatch any wounded game and recover to the handler.

We take breeding very seriously and always breed first and foremost for temperament, health, conformation and hunting ability.  On average we breed once every 12-18 months or so and will not breed any of our bitches more than two or three times.  .  We don't breed to make a living and believe in quality rather than quantity.  We screen people interested in our puppies carefully and we have been very lucky to date and have made some very good friends through our puppies. 

All puppies are wormed, have had their first and second set of shots, have been tattooed, have begun crate training and have been well socialized with adults, children and our dogs before they go to their new homes at 8 weeks of age.  We also temperament test our puppies at 7 weeks of age. As we know the personalities of the puppies better than anyone, we try to match each puppy with the appropriate family for its needs.  We don't feel the Drahthaar is for everyone; it is a demanding breed in terms of needing to be with their people, the amount of exercise they need to keep them happy and out of trouble and they can be destructive if not trained properly.  They also need a good deal of early socialization to people, places and other dogs to make them as well rounded as possible.  If you are the type of person who appreciates their intelligence and willingness to please, then you will be rewarded tenfold with a wonderful companion who will steal your heart.
